In honoring Martin Luther King Day, the former president of United State, Barack Obama urged Americans honor his legacy by remembering the lesson he taught humanity.
Obama has posted this on his timeline on twitter on Monday doubling as the inauguration of the new president of the country.
His post read: “Through struggle and discipline, persistence and faith, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. helped move this country forward.
“As we honor his legacy today, let’s remember the lesson he taught us: that even in the face of impossible odds, people who love this country can help change it.
“In honor of #MLKDay, I hope you’ll do what you can in your community to create a better future for us all.” The former president added.
Martin Luther King was an American Baptist minister, activist, and political philosopher who was one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968.
His adoption of nonviolent resistance to achieve equal rights for Black Americans earned him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
Martin Luther King Day is a Federal holiday in the U.S. on every third monay in January to honor the life and legacy of the civil rights icon
King is remembered for his masterful oratorical skills, most memorably in his “I Have a Dream speech”
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” MLK.
