The second round of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) kicked off in thrilling fashion, headlined by an entertaining seven-goal encounter between Sunshine Stars and Ikorodu City at the Remo Stars Stadium. Sunshine Stars emerged victorious with a 4–3 win, thanks to 20-year-old Promise Awosanmi, who stole the show with a remarkable hat-trick. Taking advantage of these slip-ups, league leaders Remo Stars secured a crucial 2–1 victory over Akwa United away from home, extending their lead at the top of the table to five points.
