Gospel artiste, Timileyin Ajayi, who was recently arrested for the murder of Salome Adaidu, in Nasarawa state, has pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of culpable homicide filed against him.
Ajayi was arraigned before Justice Simon Aboki of the High Court of Justice, Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital on Monday morning January 27.
He was charged with one count of culpable homicide punishable by death, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria
The 32-year-old was apprehended on January 12 by the police operative in Agwan Sarki Orozo a suburb of the Nasarawa State, with a severed head of Adaidu, who was equally a corps member observing the compulsory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The butchered pieces of the deceased was found at him home.
Salome was allegedly murdered when she visited the suspect at his house in the Papalana axis at New Karshi in Karu Local Government Area, where Ajayi claimed that she had demanded for 3,000 for transportation and he was tired of the relationship and wanted out.
Upon questioning by the local media, he had emphasized that he didn’t regret his action as the deceased was cheating on him, alleging that he had caught her sex chatting on several occasion.
The Gospel Singer’s father, Mr. Sunday Ajayi had appealed to the Nigeria government to release his son while the mother says the government should uphold the law.
