Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alex de Minaur to become the first Spaniard to win the Rotterdam Open in the tournament’s 52-year history.
It was Alcaraz’s first indoor title and the 17th trophy of his career. The world No. 1 beat the Australian tennis star 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to claim the title.
After the win, Alcaraz expressed his joy and appreciation for the support from the fans.
“This tournament is very special for me due to the support here. This was my first time, but it felt like I had been playing here for longer. I hope to return next season. I felt better every day, and I want to thank my team because we have worked really well together.”
It was Alex de Minaur’s second consecutive final loss after also finishing as runner-up last year against Jannik Sinner. Speaking to reporters, the 25-year-old expressed hope of winning the tournament soon.
“We’re pushing for bigger and better things,” the Australian said. “It’s been two years now with this runner-up trophy. I’m hoping I’ll get my hands on the winner’s one day.”
During the trophy ceremony, De Minaur also praised Carlos Alcaraz for his performance.
“Congratulations, man. Too good. You’re an incredible person. We have known each other for a very long time, we have always had some fun battles, and I enjoyed my time very much on the court today. Thank you, and well done for the week.”
