Natasha Is Not Akpabio’s Subordinate

And I feel ashamed that my Party, the PDP isn’t talking…

The Nigerian Senate has been embroiled in controversy in recent times, with various incidents sparking heated debates and discussions. One such incident that has caught my attention is the altercation between Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio. As a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I am ashamed that my party has chosen to remain almost silent on this matter, and I feel compelled to speak out.

For those who may not be aware, the incident in question occurred when Senator Natasha refused to vacate her seat in the Senate chamber, citing that she had not been officially informed of any changes to the seating arrangement. This refusal was met with resistance from the Senate leadership, led by Senate President Akpabio, who insisted that she must comply with the new seating arrangement.

On the surface, this incident may seem like a minor disagreement between two senators. However, upon closer examination, it reveals a more sinister attempt to intimidate and subjugate Senator Natasha by the Senate leadership. By refusing to recognize her rights and autonomy as a senator, the leadership is effectively trying to reduce her to a subordinate position.

This is unacceptable, and it is even more disturbing that my party, the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, has chosen to remain almost silent on this matter. As a party that claims to uphold the values of democracy, justice, and equality, it is our duty to speak out against injustice and oppression. We cannot afford to remain silent while one of our own is being bullied and intimidated.

As the main opposition party in Nigeria, the PDP has a critical role to play in holding the ruling party accountable for its actions. We must be vigilant and proactive in defending the rights and interests of our members, particularly those who are being targeted and intimidated by the ruling party.

In this case, the PDP’s silence is deafening. We must speak out against the actions of Senate President Akpabio and the Senate leadership, and demand that they respect the rights and autonomy of Senator Natasha. We owe it to ourselves, our party, and the Nigerian people to uphold the principles of democracy and justice.

The incident between Senator Natasha and Senate President Akpabio is a clear example of the intimidation and bullying that is prevalent in our political system. As a member of the PDP, I am ashamed that my party has chosen to remain silent on this matter.

I urge my party to take a stand and condemn the actions of Senate President Akpabio. We must defend the rights and interests of our members, and uphold the principles of democracy and justice. Let us not be ashamed to stand up for what is right.
