IGP Egbetokun Decorates 3 AIGs, 16 CPs, Honours One Late Police Officer PosthumouslyThursday, February 20, 2025

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun has decorated three newly promoted assistant Inspector General police and 16 commissioners of police who have benefited from the recent promotion exercise approved by the police service commission. 

The decoration ceremony took place today at the Goodluck Jonathan Peacekeeping Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

In his address, the IGP Egbetokun noted that the force recognises the newly promoted officers’ services particularly those being honoured today as new members of the force Strategic Forum. 

“Your promotion is based on merit and your conduct should reflect in your new ranks. This promotion is not just about recognising your commitment to achieve ranks and a clear service record, but more to call to greater service, responsibility and leadership. 

“You must lead by example, uphold justice and be a source of home to every citizen of our great country. This ceremony underscores the commitment of the current police management to the welfare of the personnel. Promotions serve as motivation for better performance. 

“By recognizing the service officers, we encourage others to strive for excellence. Our merit please approach in the promotion exercise, first as a course of appropriation and dedication within our ranks, and we are committed to upholding this standard, promotion comes with high expectations. 

He tasked them to uphold the rule of law while maintaining integrity, transparency and accountability. “You are expected to lead with professionalism and ethical conduct. Your decisions will shape the future of our policing efforts and impact countless lives. 

He noted that the challenges before them are evolving from crime checks to community relations, noting that their leadership is crucial. 

The IGP urged them to embrace innovation and collaboration both within the force and with our community partners to build a safer environment for all. 

AIG Garba Ahmed, one of the newly decorated officers advises other officers of the force to have faith in God and become professional. He said they should offer their services to Nigeria with the fear of God. They should not oppress citizens, eschew corruption, and bullying and embrace dignity in the cause of their duty.

In his words, CP Hassan Gwani said today is a happy day for him, having been promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police. He said that it was not easy. He said his dedication to work and the support of his colleagues has contributed to his promotion. He promised to redouble his effort and perform very well and also make sure that all his performance will be according to the ethics of the job.

The decoration ceremony saw the elevation of three (3) Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police. The newly decorated AIGs include AIG Garba Ahmed, AIG Nemi Edwin Osigoboka Iwo, and AIG Salman Garba Dogo.

In addition, sixteen (16) Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police. The decorated CPs include CP Hassan Gwani, CP Cyriacus Enechukwu, CP Gombit Bangs, CP Rosemary Akpan, CP Ayodele Adeyemi, among others. 

The event was graced by notable dignitaries, including Prince Ma Sani-Omolori; Former Clerk to the National Assembly (The Ciroma of Ebira Land), Mr. Nebeolisa Anako; Former Permanent Secretary of the Police Service Commission, DIG Valentine Ntomchukwu(rtd.), as well as members of the Force Management Team, serving and retired Senior Police Officers, and families of the newly decorated senior officers.
