Real Madrid progressed to the round of 16 after thrashing Manchester City 3-1 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Kylian Mbappé was the man of the moment as he single-handedly knocked out Manchester City with his hat-trick.
He gave Real Madrid the lead just four minutes into the game. A precise long ball by Asensio went over the top of the Manchester City defense. The ball reached Mbappé, who lifted it over Ederson, allowing it to bounce into the net.
Mbappé combined with Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Jr., and Rodrygo to double Real Madrid’s advantage in the 33rd minute.
The Frenchman completed his hat-trick in the second half after a precise pass from Federico Valverde. He dribbled past Foden, ran to the edge of Manchester City’s box, and played a superb shot into the back of the net.
Nico González grabbed a goal that served as a consolation for the Citizens in stoppage time.
After a slow start to life at Real Madrid, Mbappé has taken the Spanish side by storm with 18 goals in his last 18 games and a total of 28 goals for the club this season.
After the match, Kylian Mbappé stated, “I said it, I didn’t arrive here to play bad. Adaptation period is over. It’s time I show my personality.”
Real Madrid will face either Bayer Leverkusen or Atlético Madrid in the quarter-final.
