Nigerian politician and a two-term serving representative, representing Egbeda Federal Constituency Akinola Adekunle Alabi in a post on twitter has berated Scott Igumer, a content creator who has been criticizing realtors, agent and developer for selling property in Lekki, Ikoyi, Ajah axis of Lagos State at exorbitant prices in dollars.

Honorable Alabi cost the price of land, surmised his opinion: “Developer buys a parcel of land for N500m. Spends N300m building it over 12 months. Puts it in the market for N900m. The developer and the agent are devils because you can get better deals in Dubai and Texas.”

Iguma who has been trending for a while on social media condemned realtors for listing and selling property in dollars to Nigerians, which is not the legal tender of the country.

The content creator on several occasion compare properties sold outside the country which are usually cheaper to the ones sold in Nigeria at exorbitant prices.

When a netizen had condemned the politician post asking where land is being sold for N900 million per plot, he has responded, citing an instances.

“Let me ask you a question. Please answer with all honesty. If someone gifts you a plot of land in VI or Ikoyi (where going rate is like 900m) right now, how much will you sell it to a developer that wants to buy?” Hon. Alabi replied

However the politicians was condemned by people under his post, some of whom explained that with the minimum wage of the country being N77, 000, then the price is too much on the high side.

@TheGrtSavi: “If no be politics where una for the see 500mill to buy just land?”

@Olaniyi_wale: “Let’s fix Nigeria as a whole by creating policies that will help a common man grow and become something in life. Not creating policies alone but enforcing them for the betterment of the people. Ire ooo”

I_AM_WETHEBEST: “Why are they selling land for #500,000,000 in Nigeria in the first place. A country where the minimum wage is less than #80,000 you’re selling land for #500,000,000? Honourable member your comment makes no sense.”

@AjeboDanny: “I’ve said it severally that overpricing is a government issue more than it is an individual’s. The Land is going for that rate because the government has heaped a number of taxes and hidden charges to land owners and even developers so they can’t even regulate it. Overpricing in real estate happens in almost every city, the difference is those cities generally have more to give as a city, Lagos wants to copy the pricing all while looking a slum. Smh”

@NowGreens: “Akin, sentiments aside these properties are overpriced given their location, sizes and facilities available. It absolutely makes no sense to me, so yes one can get a better deal in UK, US and Dubai.”

@nwosu_tryce: “The crop of politicians with NO iota of love or consideration for his constituents. When an active politician types this just expect NO tangible reform to alleviate the sufferings of the common man. You should at least pretend to fight a just cause with your position.”

Iguma warned Nigerians living in diaspora to always send out a representative to properly check out the property when buying and learn the act of bargaining, as he reasoned that most of those property claimed to be luxury by the realtors don’t worth the prices being sold for.

Falana Chambers representing Lekki Ajah Ikoyi Property Investment Limited slammed Iguma with N100 fine for a defamatory Instagram post targeting their client, stating that the property was advertising fake discounted property, which the company refuted.
