Health: “Untreated Malaria Can Affect The Brain.” Dr. Chinoso Egemba

“It’s called cerebral malaria and is a complication of severe malaria

“The malaria parasites get into the brain and prevent your brain from getting oxygen, your body is still fighting the parasites in your brain and this leads to more damage

“Parasites like these are not supposed to be in the brain, because the brain is protected by a barrier, but when they do, it can damage that barrier further and cause one way into your brain.

“When it gets to this point, you need to treat it fast because it can get fatal if not treated.

“Things like brain swelling, hypertension inside your skull, coma, seizures, plus the other signs of malaria are present.

“Even after treatment, depending on the damage done to the brain, some of the effects still linger.

“Malaria be like neighbor but dangerous if ignored and children and pregnant women are at risk.

“So maybe “small madness” is not the way to put it, but yes untreated malaria can affect the brain.”
