High School Track Runner Faces Assault And Battery Charges, After A Footage Shows Her Hitting A Junior School Runner With Metal Baton

Track runner Alaila Everett, accused of attacking another runner Kaelen Tucker on the 4TH of March  during the Virginia State High School League Championships at Liberty University in Lynchburg, with a metal baton, during an interview with ABC tried to prove her innocence.

Everett, a senior at I.C. Norcom High School in Portsmouth, was running the second leg of the 4×200-meter relay when her baton struck Kaelen Tucker, a junior from Brookville High School, in the head.

The 18-year-old who was with her dad tried to do visual recreation of the incident stated: “Her arm was literally hitting the baton until she got a little ahead, and my arm got stuck like this.

“I would never do that on purpose. That’s not in my character.” She explained.

The high school runner was seen in a viral video during the race to had hit Tucker, who was ahead of her, on her head and the victim had fallen by the track side, however the accused after so much back lashes had gone on social media crying about her state of mind.

During a previous interview, Everett with tears running down her face had said of the victim: “You are physically hurt but you are not thinking of my mental health”

She claimed in the video that her action was not intentional like people made it to be, that she had only lost her balance

“I lost my balance, I pumped my hands in the air and the she got hit

“I can admit, from the video it does look purposeful… but I know my intentions and I would never hit somebody on purpose”

“They are assuming my character, calling me ghetto and racial slurs, death threats… all of this off of a nine second video”

The victim suffered a fractured skull and a concussion.

Following the incident, the athletic director at I.C. Norcom High School and Everett’s father apologized to the Tucker family in a phone call, according to Tucker’s parents.

The high school track athlete faces a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery

Bethany Harrison, the commonwealth’s attorney for the city of Lynchburg, confirmed to ABC News on Wednesday that a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery was issued against Everett in the matter.
