Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, the 2023 Labour Party Presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra state Peter Ob, in ameeting with the Governor of Bauchi State, who double as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bala Mohammed, at the Ramat House on Thursday revealed desire to work together for the betterment of the country.
The two leaders expressed readiness to work hand in hand to “rescue Nigeria” from hardship and make the country work again irrespective of their political affiliation while calling for unity among opposition parties.
Extolling the virtues of the former governor of Anambra state, Mohammed stated; “We in the PDP, as the chairman of my colleagues, the governors, have always admired him. We have always shown interest because behind the scenes, I have been meeting him.
“This is not the first time. In fact, I was going to meet him in Abuja, but out of his humility, he decided to come here,” he disclosed.
According to the Bauchi State governor, their collaboration could bridge political divisions, strengthen governance, and combat poverty and ignorance.
“As for me, I am ready to work with Peter Obi to ensure we close ranks, bring good governance to the country, and give a vibrant opposition with knowledge, vision, and sincerity.”
Speaking further on the means of actualizing their dreams, seeing that the ruling political party intend to vie for second term and has the political powers and means to remain in administration.
Mohammed had replied: “We would use knowledge, tact and strategy to transcend all these, to go beyond their estimation, in such a manner that it will come with the frame work that will give you as latitude to actualize our collective aspiration of providing good governance to Nigerians, irrespective of the bad interferences, permutations or plans of those people who think that they can scatter democracy.
“So all the means that is in their hands through powers of coercion or even interference in the judiciary and so on and so forth, we would transcend all that and that is the plan.” He added.
Buttressing what the chairman of PDP said, Obi when questioned on how to resolve Nigeria problem seeing that the two leaders are of different political affiliation, he emphasized on giving hope to every Nigerians as the basis of their talks while they move the country forward without religious bigotry or tribalism.
In Obi’s word: “We just started discussion, you can’t consummate a marriage in one day, you have to meet and talk, but the most important thing is that our talk center on issue that bother the ordinary Nigerian.
“We want to see a Nigerian where a child of nobody will be somebody, because we were once child of nobody. I used to go to school in my own parent’s car, same school with my mother’s driver, the children were in the same school, today, it’s all finished. We want to give a Nigerian child a hope, a future to live, that’s our discussion first.
“And when you find all these working together, you remove all those elite conspiracy of tribalism, religion, all sort of things they used to measure themselves, we want to see you now as the competent person, who have the capacity, compassion, no longer telling me the reason I have to follow you is because you are from here.
‘We have voted tribe, we voted religion, we now want to deal with competency, capacity and compassion, we want to move the country forward, these are the discussion, it’s ongoing.
“We want to empower women as well, they should be able to hold 25% effectively in our political consideration and cooperate world because women are engine of growth, and they care about family.” He added.
