Lagos PDP Condemns President’s Declaration of State of Emergency

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The party views this move as an unconstitutional attempt to undermine democracy and the will of the people, describing it as a clear attack on Nigeria’s democracy

The PDP has rejected the President’s decision to suspend the democratically elected Governor of Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and appoint Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) to govern the state instead. They believe this is part of a larger plot to impose a totalitarian one-party state, decimate opposition, and create a siege mentality across Nigeria.

The party has also pointed out that the President’s declaration is not justified under the 1999 Constitution, rendering it incompetent. They’ve cautioned Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (rtd) to respect the Constitution and ensure smooth democratic governance in Rivers State. The PDP emphasizes that Nigeria is not under military rule, and state governance cannot be by appointment by a junta.
