Reno Omokri former aide to the former president of nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan in a post appealed to Nigerians not to cancel online streamer and content creator Habeeb Hamzat known as Peller.
This is coming after Peller had told some of his fans to take their rants off Tiktok and into the market place.
“If you want to really rant, go to Instagram; go to the market; don’t rant here on TikTok. If they ban TikTok, that’s where we will have issue,” he said in a previous vid
“Let’s protest. Let’s go outside. Let’s leave TikTok. Online something is just mumu mumu.” He added
However, his utterances boomeranged when he was backlashed for being selfish and only concerned about making money while others languish in poverty and in turn some of his avid fans had promised to unfollow him, while some enticed his followers with cash, pledging to gift anyone cash if they unfollow the Tiktoker.
Omokri condemned the act while he compared Maryanne Moghalu’s statement to what the 19-year-old stated.
The political activist wrote: “Maryanne Moghalu, a mature matronly woman of almost sixty years, told the world to “Invest in Lagos at your own peril,” and you did not cancel her. In fact, you defended her. But you want to cancel a nineteen-year-old Peller because he urged Nigerians not to rant on TikTok?
“Habeeb Hamzat, AKA Peller, has done nothing wrong to Nigeria and has done many things right for our country. If you did not cancel a twenty-something-year-old Raye for saying Lagos is smelly, please don’t join in sacrificing this teenager on the altar of ethnic politics.” Omokri pleaded.
Speaking via his Instagram page on Thursday, the Tiktoker with over 19 million followers said his statement was misinterpreted by many who believe he was mocking the challenge.
“Nigeria u misunderstanding me and Jarvis please u all should try to understand am not the president i am Peller,” he wrote alongside a video.
The “30-day rant challenge” is currently trending across Nigerian TikTok and X, with citizens using it to vent about the rising cost of living and the harsh economy under the Tinubu-led administration.
The challenge started after a video of NYSC member Ushie Uguamaye went viral, where she slammed President Bola Tinubu, calling him a “terrible president” whose policies are crushing the poor and businesses.
Peller, reacting to the wave of daily rants, earlier said, “After ranting for 30 days, you that say you’ve been suffering, you’ll go back to the suffering.”
His remarks sparked mixed reactions. While some supported him, others dragged him for being insensitive and only looking out for his own pocket.
