Novak Djokovic defeated Grigor Dimitrov to reach his first Miami Open final since 2016.
The Serbian secured a 6-2, 6-3 victory and will be aiming to replicate his performance in the final to claim the 100th title of his career.
After the win, Djokovic told reporters: “Ever since I won my 99th [title], which was the Olympic Games in Paris, I’ve been playing with the prospect of winning the special 100 titles. I’ve been trying to find that necessary and much-needed level of tennis that will put me in a position to fight for a trophy, a big trophy.
“That’s what I’ve been doing this week, to be honest. I’ve been very happy with the way I prepared for the tournament, the way I’ve been playing. I haven’t dropped a set. It’s a great opportunity. Let’s see what happens in two days.”
He will face Czech teenager Jakub Mensik on Sunday, March 30. The 19-year-old advanced to the final with a surprising 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) victory over Taylor Fritz in the semifinals.
Both players have things to fight for in the final—world No. 5 Djokovic is chasing his 100th career title, while Mensik is seeking his first-ever ATP title. It’s a showdown between a tennis legend and a young gun.
