“The Poverty That Pushes One To Hide Their Labor In The Dark Is A Painful One.” Chess Coach Condemn Estate Woman For Belittling Her, Awards Scholarship To Her 11-Year-Old

The convener of ‘chess in the slum Africa’, Tunde Onokoya added his voice to reprimand an online activist simply known as Adetoun that recorded her estate cleaner and her 11-year-old daughter yesterday morning while working.

Adetoun had confronted the cleaner, knocked  her for bringing her minor daughter to assist her in cleaning, she threatened the woman with ‘child abuse’ and vowed to make sure the child is taken custody of, if she ever see her working alongside the mom again.

The Chess Coach categorically condemned Adetoun’s action, stating that it is wrong of her to do recording of such bashing, he cited his own upbringing as an example, saying that he did helped his mom 9 years back when she did odd jobs.

In his words: “My mother used to sweep people’s houses and gutters in 2016. It hurt too much that I could do nothing financially to stop her.

“I often insisted on going with her, just to help fetch the water she needed so we could finish quicker and get back home before daylight.

“I didn’t want anyone to see us. The poverty that pushes one to hide their labour in the dark is a painful one.” He added.

Onakoya described Adetoun action as ‘extremely cruel’ in humiliating a working mother in the presence of her child. He acknowledged that the child shouldn’t be working because she is underage, however both child and mother deserve compassion.

According to the chess coach: “Extremely cruel to humiliate a mother in front of her daughter like this. Even worse that this was recorded and posted on social media.

“Yes, that child should not be working. But more than outrage, what she and her mother deserve is compassion. The only humane response is to help.”

Onakoya promised to sponsor the girl through school if no one has pick up the duty and directed his foundation to reach out to the cleaner, while he knocked Adetoun for judging from a place of comfort

“If no one has done this already, I would like to take full responsibility for the girl’s education through university. I hope this eases their burden in some way. These are incredibly hard times.

“Our Privilege blinds us in ways we’ll never truly understand.”

Adetoun video caused more outrage than condemnation like she expected on the social media, as users backlashed at the activist for her inhumane action, ridiculing her in her child’s presence while stressing that she has done nothing wrong in taking the child to her place of work for assistance.

The cleaner had explained that she brought the minor because it’s a public holiday while her younger siblings are at home being minded by their dad.

After so much backlashes, the activist went to the woman’s house to ask for forgiveness and asked nigerians to forgive her shortsightedness, explaining that she was only concern about the child, that she shouldn’t be working.

She placed the cleaner on a salary aside the N19,500 being paid as the wages.
