Novak Djokovic was eliminated from the Monte Carlo Masters in the second round by Chilean Alejandro Tabilo. Tabilo stunned the 24-time Grand Slam champion with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.
It was Djokovic’s first match on clay since winning the 2024 Olympic gold medal in July, so many of his fans might excuse his poor performance. However, the legend didn’t see that as a valid excuse, as he expressed disappointment in himself, calling the performance “horrible.”
The Serbian told the press: “I expected myself at least to have put in a decent performance. Not like this. This was horrible. I did not have high expectations, really. I knew I’m going to have a tough opponent and I knew I’m going to probably play pretty bad. But this is bad — I didn’t expect it.”
“I was hoping it was not going to happen, but it was quite a high probability I’m going to play this way. I don’t know. Just horrible. A horrible feeling to play this way, and just sorry for all the people that have to witness this.”
Djokovic will now have to wait for another opportunity to win his 100th career title.
