Several reaction have trailed the National Broadcasting Commission –NBC—– banning veteran musician Eedris Abdulkareem new release, ‘Seyi Tell Your Papa Country Hard’.
Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and some well-meaning Nigerians have ridiculed the banning, stating the government have refused to hear of its shortcomings despite cries from various corner about its biting economic policies
SERAP in a post warned the government and threatened to take up the matter legally if the ban is not reversed within 48 hours.
It wrote: “The Tinubu administration must immediately reverse the unlawful ban by the National Broadcasting Commission stopping Nigerian radio and TV stations from airing Eedris Abdulkareem’s new single. We’ll see in court if the ban is not reversed within 48 hours.”
The veteran musician known for criticizing bad governance through song in his new single had berated President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a “vindictive, insensitive and destructive” government failing on all fronts.
Abdulkareem had revealed in a facebook post that the NBC banned his song citing concern over its lyrics, stating: “It’s obvious that in Nigeria, truth and constructive criticism is always deemed as a big crime by the government
“This present government led by President Bola Tinubu is now going on record as one of the most insensitive, vindictive and grossly maleficent administrations ever to preside over the affairs of Nigeria.
“And this is a fact, known by all Nigerians, irrespective of religion, tribe and political affiliations, except for the few happy slaves grovelling for crumps from their paymaster’s table!”
Supporting his view is Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, is a Nigerian activist who had promised he will sponsor the re-shooting of the video: “Nigerians are süffering, everything Eedris say on that his song is true. We are going to reshoot the video, I will sponsor everything”
While social media influencer Daniel Regha among others commended the muscian’s effort for speaking out the hardship that permeate the country
@DanielRegha: “Tell Your Papa, Seyi“, a dope song by Eedris Abdulkareem. I love how he pointed out many of our problems, and also created awareness about some controversies; However, he missed the chance to call-out Nigerian federal lawmakers. With a better chorus, the song would’ve been a hit like “This is Nigeria” by Falz.”
@RobinOFnaija: “Banning Eedris Abdulkareem‘s song was a wrong decision. Now the guys song has been tripple popular. Its projected to reach more than 250million pple in the world. Well done Eedris, this is another banga!”
The rapper echoed themes from his banned song, adding that: “I have travelled this road before as this is reminiscent of the ban of my song *Jaga Jaga* by the Obasanjo administration 21 years ago!”
