LAGOS STATE INDEPENDENT ELECTORAL COMMISSION (LASIEC) GUIDELINES FOR 2025 LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS
Key Dates and Procedures:
1. Forms Availability and Submission:
– Forms (LASIEC 001, 002, 007, 007A, 008) will be available from Tuesday, 22nd April 2025 at LASIEC Headquarters, 1 Lancaster Street, Sabo, Yaba, Lagos.
– Submission deadline: Thursday, 22nd May 2025 (LASIEC 001 must be returned by this date).
– Process ends at 12 noon on Tuesday, 20th May 2025.
2. Administrative Fees:
– Chairman: ₦150,000
– Vice Chairman: ₦75,000
– Councillor: ₦50,000
– Exemption: Female candidates and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) pay no fees.
– Payment to be made to Lagos State Government (Revenue Code: 33101, Agency Code: 77095).
3. Candidate Requirements:
– Attach to completed forms:
– Curriculum Vitae
– Birth certificate/affidavit (min. age: 25 for Councillor, 30 for Chairman/Vice Chairman)
– Party Membership Card
– Voter Registration Card (Candidate and Sponsors)
– Educational qualification (minimum Secondary School Certificate)
– Letter of disengagement from public service (if applicable, at least 30 days before election).
4. Nomination Process:
– Chairman: Nominated by 20 registered voters in at least 2/3 of wards in the LGA/LCDA.
– Councillor: Nominated by 10 registered voters in the ward.
5. Verification and Validation:
– Credentials Verification: 26th–30th June 2025 (10am–6pm daily at LASIEC HQ).
– List of Validated Candidates: Displayed on 1st July 2025 at LASIEC Notice Board.
6. Withdrawal of Nomination:
– Political Parties may withdraw candidates via written notice (29th–31st May 2025).
– Candidates may withdraw individually (2nd–9th June 2025).
7. Voters Register Display:
– Displayed at Ward Collation Centres on 28th June 2025.
8. Campaign Rules:
– No simultaneous rallies in the same location.
– Campaigns must be issue-based (no ethnic/religious incitement or bribery).
– Chairmanship: Campaign within LGA/LCDA; Councillorship: Within the ward.
– Daily campaigns end by 6pm; final deadline: 9th July 2025 (6pm).
9. Penalty:
– Non-compliance will attract sanctions under the LASIEC Law 2008 (as amended).
