In a significant move that could drive down pump prices across the country, Dangote Refinery has slashed its petrol gantry price to ₦825/litre, sparking a price war in Nigeria’s fuel market.
This is coming days after the refinery claimed it’s not in competition with NNPC.
Last month, the Dangote refinery gantry prices went from ₦880 to ₦865 to ₦830, from ₦955 in January 2025.
The move, aimed at easing economic pressure, promote affordability for Nigerians, while aligning with President Tinubu’s recovery plans, has already forced NNPC to lower its own prices.
Sources confirmed on Monday that the refinery has reduced its price to N825 per litre for its customers, through a rebate of N10 after successful loading of products at the refinery.
While consumers are seeing relief at the pump — especially in Lagos where prices are around ₦860/litre — analysts warned that Dangote’s dominance, if unchecked, could lead to monopolistic control in the sector.
