Jannik Sinner defeated Alexander Bublik in straight sets to book a place in the semi-finals of the French Open. The Italian star cruised to a 6-1, 7-5, 6-0 victory, giving the Russian-born Kazakh no chance in their quarter-final clash.
The win marked a historic milestone for Sinner, as he became the first Italian man to reach six Grand Slam semi-finals.
“I’m very happy with how I’ve arrived in the semi-finals,” Sinner told reporters after the match. “The semi-finals in Grand Slams are very special. I’m looking forward to it.”
Sinner is now on a 19-match winning streak at the majors, dating back to the Australian Open in January — a run interrupted briefly due to a short suspension.
The three-time Grand Slam winner also praised his world No. 62 opponent, saying:
“We’ve played each other a couple of times already, so we already knew what to expect a little bit. But in other aspects, you never know how he is going to play,” Sinner added.
“I feel like he deserved to be in this quarter-final. I tried to focus on my side of the court. I was trying to play as solid as possible because he can have some ups and downs, so I just needed to stay consistent throughout the whole match.”
World No. 1 Sinner will now face Novak Djokovic in a mouthwatering semi-final showdown.
