FC Barcelona have completed the signing of goalkeeper Joan García, triggering the player’s €25 million release clause. Barça beat interest from Premier League and Italian clubs to secure his signature.
García rose through the Espanyol youth ranks to become the club’s first-choice goalkeeper. He has signed a six-year contract with Barcelona, valid until 2031.
He announced his exit from Espanyol on his social media account via a video:”I know this decision won’t be easy for everyone to understand. I’m not asking you to do so. This has been thought through, thinking not only of my career but also of what’s best for the club, my family, and me.” He also thanked his coach, the fans and club staff.
He will face competition from Marc-André ter Stegen and Wojciech Szczęsny for a spot in the starting lineup.
