I’m Proud of Dr Kassim’s reforms at NSUBEB – Senator Al-Makura

Former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura says he is proud of the new initiatives at the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB led by Dr Kassim Muh’d Kassim.

According to Senator Al-Makura “When I got to know about your appointment as NSUBEB Chairman, I called and congratulate you, I’m very sure that the board is being administered, govern and presided over by some one whose capacity is not in doubt

“As Board Chairman of UBEC, you don’t need to lobby any longer to access UBEC funds, and as I settle down to discharge my responsibilities, I will sit down with you to discuss the benefits of this appointment to Nasarawa Primary Schools and areas of intervention” Al-Makura said

Senator Al-Makura stated this today, 5th of July 2025 when he hosted the Executive Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB Dr Kassim and the entire management team of the board at his private residence in Lafia.

The Current Board Chairman, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC says he has been following Dr Kassim’s reforms at the board since his inauguration, particularly making efforts to ensure that basic education is not just free and compulsory but parents who do not send their children to school would be sanctioned.

He said that as Board Chairman of UBEC Abuja, he will make sure that Dr Kassim did not go through unnecessary lobby in accessing UBEC funds and promise to work very close with him to ensure that NSUBEB get the required funding to develop Nasarawa Primary schools.

He thank the new NSUBEB chairman and his entire management team for coming to identify with him on his recent appointment as Board Chairman, Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC.

Speaking earlier, the NSUBEB Chairman, Dr Kassim Muh’d Kassim says they were in Senator Al-Makura’s residence to formerly congratulate him on his appointment as Board Chairman of UBEC.

Dr Kassim said Senator Al-Makura was the Governor who first introduced free primary education in Nasarawa State, and Governor Sule came and improved the infrastructure, and extended it to not just junior secondary schools but senior secondary schools across Nasarawa State.

The NSUBEB chairman was happy that the former Nasarawa Governor who has done so much for basic education in Nasarawa is now the Chairman of UBEC, an appointment he describe as as well deserving that will benefit Nasarawa State especially the basic education sub-sector.
