NiDCOM intervenes as Nigerians stranded in Central African Republic regain passportsJuly 24, 2025

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has responded swiftly to a distress call from a group of Nigerians stranded and allegedly maltreated in the Central African Republic (CAR), following the circulation of a viral video on social media.

In a statement signed by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit, NiDCOM, the Commission stated that the affected Nigerians were deceived and abandoned by an unidentified agent after being lured into the country under false pretenses. They were reportedly made to work for 11 months without pay, with their passports confiscated, leaving them stranded and vulnerable.

Upon receiving the alert, NiDCOM immediately contacted officials of the Nigerian Embassy in CAR to verify and address the situation.

The Commission confirmed that contact has now been established with the victims. Their seized passports have been retrieved, and arrangements are underway to dispatch a vehicle to convey them to the Nigerian Embassy in Bangui, the country’s capital an eight-hour journey from their current location.

NiDCOM further disclosed that the agent responsible for the ordeal has been identified, and relevant actions are being pursued.

The Commission expressed appreciation to officials of the Nigerian Embassy in CAR for their swift response and cooperation in addressing the plight of the affected citizens .
