New York City Mayor Eric Adams in a video revealed he’s en route the hospital for a dignified transfer of a fallen hero police officer Didarul Islam, who was killed when a gunman stormed the city skyscraper on Monday.
“I’m on the way to the dignified transfer of fallen police officer Didarul Islam, who was killed in tonight’s senseless mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan.
“He put his life on the line for all of us and died a hero. He and his family are in my prayers tonight, and I’m praying for the families of the three other innocent people killed tonight, as well as the fifth victim still fighting for their life.” Mayor Adams added
The 36-year-old slain officer was reported to be off duty when the incidence took place but put himself in harm way because “He was doing the job that we asked him to do. He made the ultimate sacrifice. “He died as he lived. A hero.” Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference.
Police have identified Shane Tamura as the shooter from Las Vega, who had a ‘documented mental health history.’ He killed himself on the scene
Officer Islam was an immigrant from Bangladesh who had served as a police officer in New York City for 3 1/2 years.
