Ikorodu Resident Cries Out To Lagos State Government As Flood Trapped Them In, After Monday Heavy Rain, Commissioner Of Environment Says There Is An Ongoing Drainage Project In The Area

Lagos state Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources Tokunbo Wahab, has assured Ikorudu residents of a permanent solution to the drainage problem that besiege the environs.

This is coming after a video went viral showing a footage of ‘Okeletu’ an area in ikorodu where residents were trapped in by the flood caused by the heavy rain that falls on Monday.

An unidentified woman doing a voice over in the video called the state government to come to their rescue, stating that their property and stuff has been flooded.

Wahab responding to the video replied: “We have seen the trending video and fully understand the concerns it has raised. I want to assure all residents of Ikorodu that the ongoing drainage project in that area, awarded by Governor Jide Sanwoolu, is designed to provide a permanent solution to the problem.

“In the meantime, I have directed the contractor to immediately commence excavation work toward the discharge point and to prioritise the construction of culverts. The concrete lining, which is part of the broader project scope, will continue once the culvert work is stabilised.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience residents are currently facing. This is temporary. What we are doing now is laying the groundwork for a permanent fix that will improve the quality of life for everyone in that area.

“We are committed to building infrastructure that works and endures.
