Fenerbahce have announced the signing of Edson Álvarez on loan, with an option to buy. The buy option is reportedly worth around €22 million.
The Turkish side beat competition from clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Ajax, and Porto to secure the player’s signature.
Álvarez joined West Ham in 2023 from Dutch powerhouse Ajax for a £35 million fee. He made 73 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
The Mexico international primarily plays as a defensive midfielder but is also capable of operating as a centre-back or central midfielder when needed. Álvarez is the captain of the Mexico national team and led his country to both the CONCACAF Gold Cup and CONCACAF Nations League titles.
