The lagos state commissioner of Police CP Olohundare Jimoh has directed full investigation into a viral video of officers harassing Comedian Makanjuola and his lawyer friend.
the Lagos state PRO Benjamin Hundeyin, revealed this under a comment section of the video posted online, promising updates as the video generated anger and condemnation of the entire police unit from the citizens.
The event which happened on Sunday at Ajah axis in Lagos state shows how police officers brutally assaulted its citizens during stop-and-search operation.
However, Hundeyin on the other hand cautioned citizens against assaulting officers with video recording while in the discharge of duties.
In his words: “Inasmuch as you want to exercise your right to be able to do video recordings of police officers you have encounters with, please endeavour not to be intrusive, not to harass or assault the officers with your recording, not to obstruct the officers in the discharge of their duties.”
The PRO statement generated heated argument among netizens who slammed Hundeyin for it.
@_devkalio wrote: “So your officers can behave like people without civil upbringing let’s even leave professional behavior aside but they cannot be recorded for evidence purposes, are you even listening to yourself Mr Ben?”
@barristerkenobi commented: “Bro, did we watch the same video or do you guys just hate taking responsibility? What would amount to obstructing a police officer in that scenario? It’s only thieves that will assume that recording them while doing a stop and search is harassment because why are you afraid?”
Hundeyin went further to defend his statement by bringing up an old tweet where he stated people have the right to make video but shouldn’t use it to it “to taunt, provoke, patronize and sometimes obstruct police officers on duty.”
