President Trump has fired the Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook after she was referred to the DOJ for mortgage fraud by Bill Pulte, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency.
He claims she committed mortgage fraud although she has never been charged. However, Cook asserted she will continue to carry out her duties and Trump has no authority to fire her.
Releasing a statement via her lawyers following the attempt by President Trump to remove, Cook stated: “President Trump purported to fire me ‘for cause’ when no cause exists under the law, and he has no authority to do so.
“I will not resign. I will continue to carry out my duties to help the American economy as I have been doing since 2022.”
The “for cause” that President Trump gave for Cook’s removal was a criminal investigation opened into her last week by the Department of Justice for mortgage fraud, referred by Federal Housing Finance Agency Director Bill Pulte who has also referred several of the president’s other political enemies to the DoJ.
Supporting the president’s move is the Director of US Federal Housing, William Pulte who appreciated Trump for following the law.
He had posted on X: “Thank you President Trump for your commitment to stopping mortgage fraud and following the law. If you commit mortgage fraud in America, we will come after you, no matter who you are.”
Cook is the first woman African American Fed Governor to ever serve and was appointed by Joe Biden in 2022.
