Maiduguri Cleaner Who Returned N4.8m To Owner Gets N1m, Other Rewards

Faiza Abdulkadir, who works at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, earns a monthly salary of N30,000 and caters for her five children and aged mother has been widely praised and financially rewarded for her act of remarkable integrity after she returned N4.8 million that was mistakenly credited to her bank account.

At a special event organized in her honour, The First Lady of Borno State, Dr. Falmata Babagana Zulum presented a cash gift of N1 million to Faiza.

“I’m pleased that a person of such calibre is a woman from Borno State. I present her with N1 million to support her family. She should be a role model for all men and women in Borno State,” said Zulum.

Also, the state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Zuwaira Gambo, announced additional support in the form of vocational equipment and food items for Faiza.

In an interview, she revealed that the discovery caused her immense distress, preventing her from eating for three days out of fear and anxiety. She explained that she returned the money for her “peace of mind” and a desire to do the right thing.

Following the public revelation of her story, a crowdfunding effort has raised over N135,000 for her and her family.
