“Remembering Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022”— The Royal Family Remembers.

Queen Elizabeth II was 96 and according to her death certificate died of “old age” at Balmoral Castle on September 8 2022

According to royal biographer Robert Hardman, she took to her bed the morning after appointing Liz Truss prime minister and at that time a staffer says “people were still thinking in terms of days rather than hours”.

The protocol for Her Majesty’s departure had been planned for decades and the family stepped in to ensure a peaceful end and in many ways the privacy of Balmoral.

However, in his 2024 memoir, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson claimed that she suffered from a form of bone marrow cancer, specifically multiple myeloma and that this explained her tiredness and weight loss.

The Queen’s health was a private matter, and Buckingham Palace never released specific details about her medical condition. Johnson’s revelation is considered an unusually private disclosure by a prime minister.

Elizabeth II was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022.

She had been queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime and was the monarch of 15 realms at her death.
