Fabianski Rejoins West Ham After Goalkeeping Crisis

UEFA Conference League-winning goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański has rejoined West Ham United on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

The 40-year-old had left the club last summer following the expiration of his contract, but West Ham have decided to bring him back amid ongoing defensive and goalkeeping issues. The Hammers have conceded eight goals in their opening three games of the season, prompting the move to reinforce the squad.

Fabiański has been one of West Ham’s most important players since joining the club in the summer of 2018. He has made 216 appearances and played a key role in helping the club win the UEFA Europa Conference League — their first European title in decades.

On returning to the London Stadium, Fabiański said:

“I’m really happy to be back because this club obviously means a lot to me. I will be, for sure, a player who is always putting the team above my personal goals.

I think maybe people see me as a good person to be around, a good person to have in the team in terms of what I bring — and so it’s not only about me, it’s about the team.

I’m here to support, to keep the standards high. I have huge experience as well, so I think it can be useful. I’ll continue to work the way I’ve always been doing, which is hopefully always at a good level.

At the same time, I understand that my role is completely different.”

Fabiański has resumed training with the first team, though it remains unclear whether manager Graham Potter will include him in the squad for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
