Fenerbahçe have officially appointed Domenico Tedesco as their new head coach on a two-year contract. The Turkish giants have been in search of a new manager since parting ways with José Mourinho earlier this summer.
Several high-profile names, including Luciano Spalletti, Erik ten Hag, and Sérgio Conceição, were considered for the role. However, the club ultimately decided that Tedesco was the ideal candidate to lead their long-term project.
The 39 year old brings a wealth of experience, having previously managed Schalke 04, RB Leipzig, and the Belgium national team. His most recent role was with Belgium, where he was dismissed at the beginning of the year.
A statement from Fenerbahçe confirming the appointment read:
“Domenico Tedesco has been appointed as the head coach of our club’s professional football A team.
The assistant to the manager will be Gökhan Gönül, one of our former captains who wore our yellow and navy jersey for several years and has signed a two-year contract.
Details regarding the signing ceremony of our new technical staff will be shared in due course.”
Tedesco is tasked with ending Fenerbahçe’s 11-year wait for a league title and guiding the team to European success — including the club’s first-ever UEFA Europa League trophy.
