Manchester United suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City, marking their second loss of the season in just four Premier League games. The pressure continues to mount on manager Rúben Amorim, whose record now stands at 16 wins, 12 draws, and 18 losses since taking over at Old Trafford.
When asked about the match, Amorim acknowledged the team’s missed opportunities and lack of clinical finishing:
“We had chances to score and open the game. We need to be more clinical. In the end, it was the small but decisive moments that gave the win to Manchester City.”
He continued:
“In these kinds of games, we need to be perfect — and in this game, we were not. The frustration is always the same. With the amount of chances we created, we need to score goals. We need to work on a lot of things before the next game.”
Amorim also addressed the fans directly, asking for patience as he continues to implement his style:
“I will do everything I can for Manchester United. This is my message to the fans: I’m suffering more than them.”
In what seemed to be a message to the club’s board, particularly owners INEOS, Amorim made it clear he won’t compromise on his tactical philosophy:
“I won’t change my philosophy. If they [INEOS] want it changed, you change the man.”
Manchester United’s next Premier League fixture is against Chelsea — a high-stakes clash that could very well determine Amorim’s future at the club.
