Napoli returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 3-2 win against Pisa. Billy Gilmour broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, but M’Bala Nzola drew Pisa level from the penalty spot in the 60th. Leonardo Spinazzola restored the Champions’ advantage in the 73rd minute, and Lorenzo Lucca doubled Napoli’s lead nine minutes later. Lorran came off the bench to give the visitors a glimmer of hope in stoppage time, but Napoli held firm to secure maximum points.
Following the win, Antonio Conte referenced Napoli’s recent 2-0 UEFA Champions League loss against Manchester City, urging fans to manage their expectations:
“When I say calm and preach caution, I mean it for this reason: we, unlike others, don’t have a well-oiled squad to play a season with various commitments like the Champions League, Coppa Italia, and Supercoppa,” he said.
“Players come from different backgrounds and have the Scudetto on their shirts: you play with high expectations. We, unlike others, have to work on the pitch to grow and level up, but sometimes you don’t have time, and experience is gained slowly. When I hear talk of a big transfer window, well, that’s another story.”
Napoli continue their perfect start to the season and top the table with 12 points, two points clear of Juventus. The Gli Azzurri’s next test comes against AC Milan on Sunday, 28th September.
