Marseille End Winless Drought Against Rivals Paris Saint-Germain

Olympique Marseille secured their first victory over Paris Saint-Germain since 2011, with Nayef Aguerd scoring the only goal of the game to earn a hard fought three points.

PSG stars Ousmane Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi, Vitinha, and João Neves were absent from the match due to their attendance at the Ballon d’Or ceremony, where Dembélé claimed the prestigious award.

Despite the loss, PSG fans appeared largely unfazed, with much of their attention focused on the Ballon d’Or celebrations. The players themselves also didn’t seem overly concerned by the result.

That didn’t stop the Marseille faithful from celebrating in full force. Fans and players alike treated the win as if they had lifted a trophy.

Following the final whistle, Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi praised his players and dedicated the historic win to the fans.

“I’m happy for my players, for the club, for everyone who brought me here ,Longoria and [director Medhi] Benatia and for all the people of Marseille,” De Zerbi said.

“I was born a fan, so I know the supporters have already played this kind of match in their minds for a week. We’re going to give them a good week. The same goes for [owner] Frank McCourt, who told me this was the first match he had won here against PSG.”

The result leaves Marseille on nine points, three behind PSG. Les Phocéens now turn their attention to Friday’s league clash, where they will take on Strasbourg.
