Spanish midfielder Sergio Busquets has revealed his retirement decision in an Instagram video, stating his final months will be with Inter Miami CF in Major League Soccer.
His post on X read: “All defeats hurt, but yesterday’s was particularly tough. The road to the goal is never straight; it always has bumps, but we must not allow them to divert us from our objective.
“The key is not to avoid falling, which is almost impossible; the key is how we get back up.
“This is not the time for words, but for actions that demonstrate change. A serious turning point to get back to doing things the way we know how.
“Our focus remains clear. The team is strong and always united. See you again on Saturday.” Busquets added.
Debuting for FC Barcelona in 2008, he made 722 appearances, winning nine La Liga titles and three UEFA Champions Leagues, while earning 143 caps for Spain, including the 2010 World Cup victory.
Since joining Inter Miami in 2023, the 37-year-old has played over 60 matches and contributed to the 2023 Leagues Cup triumph, with his contract set to expire after the 2025 playoffs.
Writing an emotional tribute to Busquets is Spanish centre-back, appreciating the retiring hero for his prowess on the pitch
In his words: “Busi, you are the definition of how to be exceptional without stopping to be a normal guy. Rival most of the time, teammate many other times, you’ve always stood out for your classy football, vision and quality, and for your humble and authentic way of being.
“Football loses one of the brightest midfielders I’ve played with, but you’re leaving with the recognition and gratitude of all of us who’ve shared time with you and of all those who love this sport.
“Thanks for being a great player, a great teammate, and a great friend. I wish you the best for your new stage. Big kisses, brother.”
