Jessica Pegula defeated Marta Kostyuk to advance to the China Open quarterfinals. The match ended 6-3, 6-7(4-7), 6-1 after a long game of tennis.
Experience definitely played a part, as Pegula remained calm while winning the first set, and the 6-3 scoreline said it all. In the second set, Kostyuk was able to respond to the American’s pressure, forcing a tiebreak and showing resilience, which earned her the win in the set. In the third set, Pegula knew there was no room for error, and she swept away the 23-year-old Ukrainian star, giving her no chance.
The result meant Pegula became the fourth U.S. tennis star to reach the quarterfinals of this year’s China Open.
