Chelsea captain Reece James has withdrawn from England’s World Cup qualifiers against Wales and Latvia after sustaining an injury during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday.
England terse statement on X read: “A squad update from St. George’s Park, as Nico O’Reilly is added to our ThreeLions squad, with Reece James withdrawing through injury.”
The 25-year-old right-back, who played the full 90 minutes, will return to his club for further medical evaluation.
Manchester City’s 20-year-old Nico O’Reilly replaces him, marking his first senior England call-up after 30 appearances this season.
