A Journal For Jordan

Directed By Denzel Washington And Starring Michael B. Jordan With A Screenplay By Virgil Williams, ’A JOURNAL FOR JORDAN’ is based on the true story of First Sergeant Charles Monroe King (Jordan), a soldier deployed to Iraq who begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son, detailing how he believes a man should act.

it’s a movie that looks at tragedy — at sacrifice — through a lens that’s both sentimental and stirring.

It tells the story of two people (Army 1st Sgt. Charles Monroe King and journalist Dana Canedy) falling in love: the hope and the beauty, the bumps in the road that nearly derail the relationship, the emotional anchor that holds it together, and the thing it’s left with on the other side — the feeling of a life having been lived.

It portrays how Jordan parents’ love existed and how his life is currently doing over time.

A father figure to the soldiers under his command, Charles moved naturally into writing to his son in a journal (a gift from his partner) While abroad, becoming a key piece of the story once Charles wass killed during a mission.

“Tell him who you are, what you believe in,” Dana Canedy encouraged.

He writes advice and wisdom. “It’s all right for boys to cry.”

King only met Jordan once before he was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) that exploded beneath his Humvee while on a convoy outside of Baghdad, Iraq. Staff Sg on October 14, 2006.

Sharing this journal with her son, his fiancée, Dana Canedy reflects on her unlikely yet powerful romantic relationship with King.
