On Monday, Chinese President Xi Jinping outlined four key proposals to advance the all-round development of women during the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women in Beijing, to reaffirm the spirit of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
Year 2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing and President Xi has emphasized the need to build broader consensus, open up new pathways, and take practical actions to empower women globally — highlighting that women’s development still faces complex challenges.
He called for joint efforts to foster an enabling environment where women can thrive and fully contribute to social and economic progress.
China has consistently honored its commitments to advancing women’s development, such as promoting gender equality along with economic and social progress.
Gender equality is a fundamental state policy, with progress reflected in women’s life expectancy reaching 80.9 years, over 99.9% girls’ enrollment in compulsory education, and women comprising around 43% of the workforce.
Globally, China has contributed $20 million to UN Women since 2015, implemented over $40 million in women-focused projects across more than 20 countries, and deployed over 1,200 female peacekeepers and 100 female police officers to UN missions.
The Meeting aims to pave the way for a future of greater equality, resilience and hope for women worldwide.
