Steven Gerrard has officially declined the opportunity to return as manager of Rangers FC, despite being the club’s top choice to succeed Russell Martin as head coach. The former Rangers boss described it as the “wrong time” to take on the role.
Discussions between Gerrard and the club hierarchy had reportedly progressed well, with both parties nearing an agreement. However, the deal fell through in the final stages, with the 44-year-old ultimately deciding to withdraw from consideration.
Gerrard previously managed Rangers from 2018 to 2021, guiding the team to an unbeaten Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 season, ending Celtic’s nine-year dominance and securing the club’s 55th league crown.
