Milwaukee Judge Charged With Obstructing Immigration Agents Is Relieved Of Duty

The Wisconsin judge accused of obstructing federal authorities who were seeking to detain an undocumented immigrant for deportation was temporarily relieved of her duties Tuesday, an order from the state’s high court shows. The Wisconsin Supreme Court’s order bars Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan from her position while the federal charges are adjudicated. The court, which said it was acting on its own and not in response to a request from anyone, said the order was intended to protect public confidence in Wisconsin courts.  A criminal complaint shows Dugan was charged with obstructing or impeding a proceeding before a department or agency...

Trump Administration Says Penn Violated Sex Discrimination Laws After Trans Swimmer Competed

The Trump administration said Monday that the University of Pennsylvania violated laws guaranteeing women equal opportunities in athletics by letting a transgender swimmer compete on the school’s women’s team and into team facilities. The administration’s statement does not name Lia Thomas, the transgender swimmer who last competed for the Ivy League school in Philadelphia in 2022 and was the first openly transgender athlete to win a Division I title that year — an award Thomas now faces losing. But the investigation opened in February by the U.S. Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights focused on Thomas, who became a leading...

About 600 North Korean troops have been killed fighting for Russia against Ukraine out of a total deployment of 15,000, South Korean lawmakers said Wednesday, citing the country’s intelligence agency. North Korea has suffered some 4,700 casualties so far, including both injuries and deaths, though its troops have shown signs of improved combat capabilities over about six months by using modern weapons like drones, the lawmakers said. In return for dispatching troops and supplying weapons to Russia, Pyongyang appears to have received technical assistance on spy satellites, as well as drones and anti-air missiles, they said. “After six months of participation in the war, the North Korean military has become less inept, and its combat capability has...

Harvard University President Apologises, Following Internal Reports Of Prejudice On Campus

Harvard University President Alan Garber has apologised following the release of internal reports into antisemitic and anti-Muslim prejudice at America’s oldest university. The reports included testimony from students who described feeling alienated and pressured to conceal their identity from their peers and educators. In response to the findings, Harvard pledged to review its academic offerings and admissions policies – a key demand of the White House, which accuses the Ivy League institution of failure to stamp out campus antisemitism. A pair of taskforces were established to look into bias at Harvard in the aftermath of last year’s pro-Palestinian protests over...
