A Georgia man was arrested last week after leaving his three young children in a McDonald’s restaurant without supervision while attending a job interview. Chris Louis, 24, was charged with deprivation of a minor on March 22. Authorities responded to the McDonald’s at 2902 Washington Road in Augusta after a concerned bystander noticed the children, aged 1, 6 and 10, in the restaurant alone, reported The Augusta Press. A responding deputy arrived at the scene to find the children unaccompanied, with a witness reporting seeing them with Louis at 4:30 pm. Louis was detained by law enforcement as soon as he returned to the restaurant around 6:18...

A 17-Year-Old From The West Bank Becomes The First Palestinian Teenager To Die In An Israeli Prison
A 17-year-old from the West Bank who was held in an Israeli prison for six months without being charged died after collapsing in unclear circumstances, becoming the first Palestinian teen to die in Israeli detention, officials said. Walid Ahmad was a healthy high schooler before his arrest in September for allegedly throwing stones at soldiers, his family said. Rights groups have documented widespread abuse in Israeli detention facilities holding thousands of Palestinians who were rounded up after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack ignited the war in the Gaza Strip. Prison authorities deny any systematic abuse and say they investigate accusations of wrongdoing by...
NASA Astronauts Open Up About Being ‘Stuck’ In Space For 9 Months Says “When We’re Up There Operating In Space, You Don’t Feel The Politics.”
In their first public comments since their dramatic return to Earth, NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore said they were surprised by the intense focus on their mission. At a news briefing Monday at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Williams and Wilmore described their “unique” mission, on which they unexpectedly spent more than nine months at the International Space Station when they were originally supposed to stay for only about a week. The duo launched to the space station in June on the first crewed test flight of Boeing’s Starliner capsule. However, they encountered problems with the vehicle’s thrusters during the...
Three Million Afghans Face Expulsion From Pakistan, Arrest And Deportation Pushed Back To April 10
Pakistan plans to expel 3 million Afghans from the country this year, as a deadline for them to voluntarily leave the capital and surrounding areas expired on Monday. It’s the latest phase of a nationwide crackdown launched in October 2023 to expel foreigners living in Pakistan illegally, mostly Afghans. The campaign has drawn fire from rights groups, the Taliban government and the United Nations. Arrests and deportations were due to begin Tuesday but were pushed back to April 10 because of the Eid al-Fitr holidays marking the end of Ramadan, according to government documents seen by The Associated Press. About 845,000 Afghans have left Pakistan...
Venezuela Is Set To Have Its First Female Saint Following Approval From Pope Francis.
On Monday, he paved the way for the canonization of Blessed María Carmen Rendiles by authorizing a decree recognizing a miracle attributed to her, the founder of the Congregation of the Handmaids of Jesus. A date for her canonization has not been set. Who was Carmen Rendiles? She was born on Aug. 11, 1903, in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, and died there on May 9, 1977. From a young age, following her father’s death, Rendiles helped her mother support the family and worked at a local parish. She joined a French congregation in Venezuela in 1927 and became a novice...
Torpedo Bat Designer Says It’s More About The Players Than The Bat Model
For the MIT-educated physicist behind the torpedo bat, it’s more about the talent of the players than their lumber at the plate. The torpedo model — a striking design in which wood is moved lower down the barrel after the label and shapes the end a little like a bowling pin — became the talk of major league baseball over the weekend. The New York Yankees hit a team-record nine homers that traveled a combined 3,695 feet on Saturday. Paul Goldschmidt, Cody Bellinger, Austin Wells, Anthony Volpe and Jazz Chisholm Jr. all went deep using a torpedo bat. New York’s 15 homers...
President Trump Coined April 2 ‘Liberation Day’, To Roll Out A Set Of Tariff
U.S. President Donald Trump has called April 2 “Liberation Day,” with promises to roll out a set of tariffs, or taxes on imports from other countries, that he claimed will free the country from a reliance on foreign goods. To do this, Trump has said he’ll impose “reciprocal” tariffs to match the duties that other countries charge on U.S. products. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday that Trump would unveil his plans to place reciprocal tariffs on nearly all American trading partners on Wednesday, but maintained that the details are up to the president to announce. Since taking office just months ago, Trump has proven...
Israel Strikes Building In Southern Beirut, Killing At Least 3 People
The Israeli military struck a building in Beirut’s southern suburbs early Tuesday, killing at least three people, in an attack it said said it targeted a member of the Hezbollah militant group. The airstrike came without warning days after Israel launched an attack on the Lebanese capital, Beirut, on Friday for the first time since a ceasefire ended fighting between Israeli forces and the Hezbollah militant group in November. The Israeli military had warned residents in the crowded suburbs before the attack after two projectiles were launched from southern Lebanon, which Hezbollah denied firing. At least seven other people were...
Justice Department Instructed To Dismiss Legal Challenge To Georgia Election Law
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on Monday instructed the Justice Department to dismiss a lawsuit challenging a sweeping election overhaul that Georgia Republican lawmakers passed in the wake of President Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss in the state. The lawsuit, filed in June 2021 under former President Joe Biden, alleged that the Georgia law was intended to deny Black voters equal access to the ballot. Bondi said the Biden administration was pushing “false claims of suppression.” “Georgians deserve secure elections, not fabricated claims of false voter suppression meant to divide us,” she said. The law was part of a trend of Republican-backed measures that...
