Canada’s largest airline will begin suspending flights on Thursday after the union representing its flight attendants issued a 72-hour strike notice. Air Canada will be gradually suspending flights over that period, the carrier said, warning that passengers without confirmed flights should not go to the airport. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which represents 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants, provided a strike notice early on Wednesday after reaching an impasse in contract talks. The FBI has returned a 500-year-old stolen document signed by Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés to Mexico. The manuscript page was penned in 1527 and is one of 15 pages thought to have been swiped from Mexico’s national archives between 1985 and 1993, the US investigatory agency said. The page – which describes payments made for supplies for expeditions – was discovered in the US and repatriated on Wednesday. The governor of New Mexico declared a state of emergency Wednesday in response to violent crime and drug trafficking across a swath of northern New Mexico, including two Native American pueblo communities.
